SkillsTrain Sponsor CD for Diabetes Week

Published: 6th Mar 08

SkillsTrain supports young diabetic’s hopes for stardom and sponsors the production of a CD to be sold in aid of Diabetes UK, to coincide with Diabetes Week in June 2008. SkillsTrain has pledged to sponsor one the UK’s most promising young singing stars, former Harry Potter actor and international karate champion, type 1 diabetic, 19 year old Shane Board, from Poole, Dorset. Skillstrain has enabled Shane, who has suffered from diabetes since the age of 10, to record four tracks at Jools Holland’s London recording complex in London. All profits from the sales of the CD will be donated to Diabetes UK and the tracks will be launched in time for Diabetes Week, 8th – 15th June 2008. Shane Board, who is currently undertaking the SkillsTrain Certified Internet Web Designer course said “Because of my diabetes I was unable to focus on my school studies fully. Being able to study from home on the SkillsTrain web design course means that I can run a worthwhile career alongside my singing and acting aspirations. SkillsTrain is a sponsor of a number of youth initiatives, largely concerned with young people who achieve against adversity. SkillsTrain are the sponsors of the Dunstable College Student of the Year Awards, as well as the founder sponsors of the YOPEY Awards (Young People of the Year) and are benefactors of the University of Bedfordshire, equipping the Computing Department with £60,000 worth of new computers in July 2007.
