IT home study specialist SkillsTrain, has helped save the racing future of the world’s only blind speed skier, 35 year old British born Kevin Alderton from Dartford Kent, who set the indoor and outdoor world blind speed ski records for Britain in 2006.

The company came up with a donation to enable Kevin to travel immediately to the French Alps, where he is currently training to participate on behalf of Great Britain in the international ski racing circuit this winter and to attempt to break his own World Blind Speed Ski record.

Kevin, who was blinded in a mugging attack in 1998, has set his hopes on skiing for Britain in the 2010 Paralympics, a goal which demands that he trains and competes each year in the run up to the event. He also actively represents Britain’s medal hopes as a member of the Adaptive Ski Team and Speed Ski GB, which race internationally in the Alps each winter.  Without sponsorship, by early February, his plans for  world record attempts and for representing Great Britain seemed to be over.

Hearing of his plight, SkillsTrain came forward and offered funding to enable Kevin to make an immediate start on this year’s training.

Mr. Jan Telensky, Chief Executive of SkillsTrain added “Those who embark on our IT distance learning programmes have often overcome personal difficulties, such as the loss of their job, a bereavement, divorce or a new life in a new country. Kevin is an exceptional example of someone who has excelled in life, despite facing among the greatest difficulties a human can face. We are delighted to be associated with him and wish him continued success”.

End.
