Museum of Computing to re-open

Students enrolled on an IT training course might wish to learn more about the sector's history with a visit to the soon to be re-opened Museum of Computing in Swindon.

The museum is expected to open its doors again this weekend on August 8th, 18 months after it was closed following the withdrawal of support from the University of Bath.

A spokesperson for the museum said new exhibits will focus on the role computers now play in everyday life.

The vice-president of one of the museum's main sponsors Intel, Gordon Graylish, said: "It’s very appropriate to open a Museum of Computing in Swindon, a town which has been at the forefront of technology since the days of Brunel."

One of the museum's notable exhibits is the 1989 Nintendo Power Glove which includes the motion-sensor technology now found in the manufacturer's Wii products.

The museum is open on Saturdays from 9:30 to 17:00 and entry is priced at £3.50 for adults.
