Companies must do more with their IT departments

An expert asserts that companies should look to do more with their IT departments than maintaining computer systems, which could create opportunities for IT project manager course graduates.

Rob Savage, an independent business systems consultant, tells the Birmingham Post that this arm of the firm can do more than is often expected of it and have a direct impact on revenues.

He states that everything the department does should have a strong and tangible benefit to the organisation, advocating the use of IT consultants as a way of unlocking this potential.

"IT helps you sell more, make more, be more efficient, improve quality, differentiate you from your competitors etc," he tells the news provider.

Mr Savage suggests business leaders do not know how to assess the contribution which IT departments make and he claims this is why boards of directors avoid this task.

Rob Lovell, chief executive and co-founder of ThinkGrid, recently asserted that the increasing use of virtualisation will lead to changes in the infrastructures companies use, potentially creating jobs for IT training course graduates.ADNFCR-2238-ID-19081351-ADNFCR
