Online malware attacks increased in 2008

There has been an increase in the number of online malware attacks focused on companies, a new report suggests, which could create a need for network security course graduates.
Research by ScanSafe shows a 582 per cent growth in the number of incidents between like quarters in 2007 and 2008.
Mary Landesman, senior security researcher at the company, claims the economic downturn is leading to an increase in the rate of online crime, which could produce demand for network security course graduates.
She states: "It is also likely that cyber crime is proving to be a viable business opportunity in a climate where legitimate opportunities are becoming increasingly more limited."
Its Annual Global Threat Report reveals that 14 per cent of all malware incidents the company blocked were caused by data theft Trojans, up from six per cent in 2007.
Credant Technologies recently claimed that the public sector is becoming increasingly aware of the importance of data protection, which could create opportunities for those who have completed a network security course.
