UK firms lack recruitment training

Managers in the UK are not properly prepared to carry out job interviews, it has been revealed.
Research conducted by interview skills trainer RecruitSure.com found that 34 per cent of job candidates have been asked an illegal question in the last year - indicating that over one-third of would-be employers risk being sued for discrimination.
Chief executive of the group Joe McDermott commented that employers' recruiting techniques are being neglected and described the study findings as "astonishing".
He said: "By unwittingly asking illegal questions such as a candidate's age or about their beliefs, race or sexuality, employers are putting themselves in a very difficult situation which could result in legal action taken against them."
Mr McDermott went on to say that it is vital that employers invest in interview skills training as a company's biggest asset is its employees.
Earlier this week, recruitment adviser Computer People commented that the length of time it takes to secure a job in the IT industry is increasing in the current economic climate.
