UK firms change IT spending strategies

Organisations in the UK are changing their approach to IT spending in the downturn, it has been revealed.
In news which may be of interest to those studying for IT distance learning qualifications, a Harris Interactive survey commissioned by Microsoft suggested that 55 per cent of IT professionals believe the economy has changed the role of IT in their organisation.
The study polled the opinions of 1,200 IT professionals in the US, the UK, Germany and Japan.
Bob Kelly, Microsoft's corporate vice president of infrastructure server marketing, stated: "There is an increased focus on things like virtualisation as a way to create not only cost reduction but actually modernise their IT. This is again an example where cost reduction can actually be real innovation."
He added that many companies are currently finding spending on IT too costly.
This week, recruitment firm Hays Information Technology commented that knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint is currently among the IT skills most favoured by UK organisations.
