Software sector will expand despite recession

The software sector is set to expand despite the economic downturn, new research shows, which could interest IT training course graduates.

Gartner predicts that the industry will expand from $221.9 billion (£154.3 billion) in 2008 to $222.6 billion in 2009, up 0.3 per cent in twelve months.

Richard Gordon, research vice president and head of global forecasting at the analyst, explains that businesses will be trimming their costs during this period.

He says they will be looking to increase the usability of their current hardware, which could create opportunities for IT training course graduates.

"IT organisations worldwide are being asked to trim budgets and consumers are cutting back on discretionary spending," he states.

Gartner predicts that there will be a switch to low-cost purchases that will extend the life of their current products.

Last month, the analyst predicted that the worldwide hosted virtual desktop market would expand to $65 billion in the next four years, partially fuelled by changes to the way companies use hardware.ADNFCR-2238-ID-19103649-ADNFCR
