Social media blessing and curse for jobseekers

Social media websites give jobseekers a wide range of new options that they can use when looking for work, it has been suggested.
In news which may be of interest to those who have recently completed IT training courses, employment search engine TipTopJob states that sites such as Facebook, Bebo and MySpace allow candidates to gather practical information on companies and the people who work there.
However, the group added: "Just as you can use social media to track down information on potential employers, don't forget that they are increasingly likely to use social media to find out more about prospective employees."
The company went on to stress that the sites are effectively public forums and one poorly-judged remark can undo the hard work that has gone into a job application.
Last week, the Society for Advancement of Consulting claimed it is not true that finding high-quality staff is easier in times when more people are being made redundant.
