Simple steps key to phone interview success

A strategy is required for candidates to maximise their chances of passing telephone interviews, it has been stressed.

Writing for Career Connection, Joyce Lain Kennedy of Tribune Media Services commented that the first step should be to find a quiet place and assemble essentials such as CVs, accomplishment sheets and a background sketch of the company conducting the interview.

She added: "Give quick, positive answers to questions measuring whether you can do the job. Be ready with several polished, results-oriented stories that back up your assertions of being the right choice."

Ms Kennedy went on to say that telephone interviews should be followed up with a letter thanking the company for the call and restating what the client can do for the employer and that they are looking forward to being interviewed for the role in person.

Last week, hair stylist Wendy Iles commented that women going for face-to-face interviews for IT jobs in the current economic climate should ensure they look their best to give them the greatest chance of being successful.
