Retraining key in job search, says expert

People seeking jobs in the current economic climate should look outside the industries they have worked in before in order to find employment, it has been claimed.

According to marketing consultant Sue Huff, who presents a television programme entitled Stand Out and Get the Job, many workers should also consider returning to the educational arena.

"That may mean training for a new career in high-demand jobs such as healthcare and technology. I encourage people to think about their skill sets and knowledge and not so much on where they have worked before. Keeping a positive attitude is the key," she continued.

She went on to say the economic climate is causing many workers to reinvent themselves after years in a single industry.

Earlier this week, studies by recruiter First Point indicated jobs within the IT sector are still available for those with the right qualifications despite the downturn.

The group added that information technology remains a key business need across all industries and the right opportunities may tempt many people in stable employment to change careers.
