People need to develop skills in a recession

People need to continue developing their skills during a recession in order to make themselves more employable, one organisation has recommended.

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development said people should be "continually learning and developing", which may encourage people to do a bookkeeper course.

Dr John McGurk, advisor for learning and talent development at the organisation, said people need to be prepared for change and this will make them more attractive to employers.

He added that using the internet, such as doing an online computer course, may help, while simple tasks such as developing intelligence or project management skills can be beneficial. .

"It may well be taking on new tasks so that you stretch yourself and build your skill levels that way," Dr McGurk recommended.

People doing network engineer courses will find they are in demand, with figures from CV Screen showing there has been a 25 per cent rise in the number of companies looking for IT workers.ADNFCR-2238-ID-19249953-ADNFCR
