Myths hindering job search

There are a number of myths surrounding the best way to look for a job, it has been claimed.
According to Vicki Brackett, founder of job website Make it Happen for Women, these include the belief that people get positions from job boards when in reality this is the case for only between four and ten per cent of candidates.
She added: "Myth number two, the only way to really get a job is by networking. That's great if your network is in the right industry and at the right level. Myth number three, career service firms will get you a job."
Ms Brackett went on to say that these firms need to provide their clients with support on every step of their job search.
Earlier this week Zelda Freud, a human resource manager at public relations firm RF Binder Partners, commented that the downturn means it is more important than ever for jobseekers to provide high-quality CVs and cover letters when looking for employment.
