Job market on the up

Many firms appear to be considering recruitment, signalling that the jobs market is entering a period of recovery, it has been claimed.
According to research published by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and KPMG, the job market deteriorated at a slower pace in May.
Mike Stevens, partner and head of business services at KPMG, commented: "There is now some reason to hope that the UK jobs market has overcome the worst, at least for this phase of the recession
many employers seem to be holding off shedding staff and contemplating recruitment."
Kevin Green, chief executive of the REC, added that 60 per cent of recruiters reported either a stable or increased demand for temporary staff in May.
Earlier this week, Paul Holme, regional skills director for the Learning and Skills Council, commented that it is vital employers invest in skills training in the current economic climate and that firms that do so are likely to emerge strongest from the downturn.
