Job candidates must be proactive

Jobseekers should take a hands-on approach to managing their career in the current economic climate, it has been suggested.

According to employment advice provider ResumeSolutions, candidates should complete an inventory of career accomplishments and achievements to date, including how results were achieved, and carry out a self-assessment to determine core competencies.

The group went on to say all skills should be highlighted, including those underused in their current position, and both long and short-term career goals should be outlined.

In addition, the organisation pointed out that having an understanding of personal values can give job candidates an extra bargaining chip in interviews.

Earlier this week, recruitment firm Hays stated that the demand for staff with specialist bookkeeping training and experience has increased over the last six months as focus on compliance and regulation within the financial services industry has increased.

The group added that accomplished technical and behavioural competencies are vital for corporate treasury jobs.
