IT training must accompany technology upgrades

IT training should be provided whenever firms make technology upgrades, it has been claimed.

According to Mike Summers, general manager of ILX Group's Performance Support Solutions, training enables end-users get the most out of IT once it is embedded.

Writing for the National Computer Centre (NCC), he added: "Many senior executives, and even some IT directors, assume that the rollout of an upgrade to an existing technology does not require new investment in training or support as the basics of the software have already been mastered."

Mr Summers went on to say that if staff struggle to master new software, this can create business continuity issues and damage business if incompatible files are sent to contacts who have not yet adopted the same technology.

This week, the NCC claimed firms that reduce their IT training budgets in the recession may find they are unable to make the most of their technology when the economy improves.
