IT jobs image improving

The image of careers in IT is becoming more glamorous and more women are thinking of entering the industry, it has been claimed.
In news which may be of interest to those considering IT distance learning courses, Jennifer Hewitt, chairman of the British Computer Society's (BCS's) Young Professionals Group, commented that TV shows such as The IT Crowd and The Big Bang Theory portray the industry as "geeky" but this attitude is changing.
She added: "IT isn't about sitting in a room, being a bit of a geek and coding all day, it's about inventing all these really cool things that everybody uses on a daily basis."
Ms Hewitt went on to say IT is a profitable business and a place where people can potentially earn a good salary.
Earlier this week, the BCS released a report indicating 57 per cent of 16 to 30 year olds accept that those without IT skills will struggle at work, while almost half think employers should get extra financial help to train people in IT business skills.
