Health sector is ideal for a challenge

IT roles in the health sector could offer skilled professionals a chance to develop their expertise as well as a recession-proof job, says an industry expert.

Writing for Computing.co.uk, Melissa Frewin said that there is currently a strong demand for qualified IT workers in both the public and private sector.

According to Ms Frewin, as health informatics become increasingly important in healthcare, more employees are needed with data management and support skills.

Those with young families might be attracted to the NHS's commitment to offering flexible working hours and job shares, she added.

Ms Frewin said that while many have been put off by lower rates of pay, many healthcare employees receive other perks such as generous pensions or medical insurance.

Earlier this year saw the government announce that 11.6 million people in the UK would be entitled to free IT training courses to improve the country's skills-base.
