Firms security provision lacks control

UK firms are finding they are unable to control users' applications of choice via legacy security products, it has been revealed.

In news which highlights the need for studying on network security courses, research carried out by firewall supplier Palo Alto Networks underlines the inability of traditional firewalls, uniform resource locator filtering and proxies to control today' applications and technology-savvy users.

Lane Bess, president and chief executive of the company, commented: "The findings in this report are significant, especially when you consider these tough economic times and the money organisations are spending on security products which are not working."

He added that applications and threats have evolved in recent years and legacy firewall technology has not kept up.

Earlier this week, IT support services provider Unisys claimed that network security course training may become more vital during the recession, as online crime is likely to become more frequent.
