Cover letters vital, say employers

Jobseekers are missing out on executive-level jobs because they forget to submit a cover letter, it has been revealed.
Research carried out by TheLadders.com indicates 39 per cent of recruiters have turned away a jobseeker for this reason, while 88 per cent said every candidate should include a cover letter.
Wendy Enelow, author and training consultant to the group, commented: "Just as your resume is a career marketing tool, so is your cover letter. Take the time that is necessary to craft a letter that is powerful and persuasive with an immediate call to action - to invite you for an interview."
The organisation added that the letter accompanying a sales job application should address any unique situations before a would-be employer flags them up on the resume, while grabbing a reader's attention and proving a candidate's relevance.
This week, Carol Kleiman, author of Winning the Job Game, stressed that jobseekers can no longer count on the institutions of government, corporations and education to help them into work.
